Actually-Fashionable Furniture and Decor for a Spring Cleaning Spruce-Up

Moving around a big city (particularly New York City) is not for the weak. Besides the financial strain that comes with leasing an apartment as a non-nepo baby, there’s also the challenge of finding something that truly feels like home. The “landlord special” has found its way into even the most charming historical rentals, erasing characteristics that make a unit unique and leaving tenants with uninspiring flat, white walls. And don’t forget the limited closet space. (I promise, I love living here.)

Though these hurdles exist for anybody, they’re especially frustrating if you’re a certified Fashion Person. Some of us forego the amenity of an oven or dishwasher (seriously!) and keep their shoes in there, while others eat up half their square footage with buildouts dedicated to just their handbag collection. One of the most famous New Yorkers (real or fictional), Carrie Bradshaw, even went as far as to keep her first apartment for closet overflow.

The truth is, even in a plain space with limited storage, there’s always a way to make it work — especially in today’s era of aesthetically minded brands and fashion-home collaborations. Instead of shopping the typical interior brands’ “Best Sellers” page with too many neutral tones and barely functional drawers to count, we’ve rounded up our favorite fashionable furniture and decor items to give your space the spring cleaning spruce-up it needs. Whether it’s a hidden-gem coat rack from Ikea, a one-of-a-kind vase from indie ceramics brand Deep Black or a funky nightstand by Gustaf Westman, there’s no aesthetic limitations in this curation.
