Three Serie A Powerhouses Eye Allegri for Their Bench

Massimiliano Allegri is ready to return after a one-year sabbatical, and he’s at the center of the upcoming coaching carousel in Serie A. Inter, Napoli, and Milan are all considering him, Corriere dello Sera informs.

Al-Hilal have resumed pursuing Simone Inzaghi, fueling doubts concerning his extension, which was seen as a fait accompli. The Saudi side is offering him €20M per year. He’s still likely to stay with the Nerazzurri, but the brass would have a clear favorite if he didn’t. Giuseppe Marotta knows the former Juventus boss very well.

Napoli reached out to Allegri should Antonio Conte pack his bags, reportedly offering €6M plus €2M add-ons. He was making about €9M per year in Turin. The veteran gaffer is firmly in the mix for the Milan job, which are closely monitoring the talks between Bologna and Vincenzo Italino.

The gaffer is keen on continuing there but asked for a three-year contract with a significant pay raise. The Rossoneri would have no trouble matching his requests. They are also mulling over making a run at Thiago Motta. Though, he’s more likely to go abroad as he feels like he’s been unjustly criticized this season.

Our Take on Allegri

His pragmatic football and mellow character are apparently still a draw, but he needs a top-notch squad to succeed, as he can’t elevate a mediocre or young one. The fact that no team, not even Roma, which knew they would need a new coach for months, have locked down a candidate is a sign that the uncertainty involving the very top teams is real and is holding up the whole domino, as the elite coaches are waiting for those calls.
