NFL keeps ‘Tush Push’ in play
The NFL won’t ban the ‘Tush Push’, keeping the Eagles’ high-success play in the game—for now.
Javonte Williams was in his second season with the Denver Broncos in 2022 when he suffered a catastrophic knee injury against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Only now, nearly three years removed from the injury, does the new Dallas Cowboys running back feel like he is fully recovered from the injury.
“I feel completely like myself,” Williams said, per the team’s official website. “I probably can get more flexible and things like that, but as far as healing up, that I feel like is done.”
Williams tore the ACL, LCL and posterolateral corner in his right knee. He missed the remainder of the 2022 season with the injury before returning to play 16 games during the following campaign.
While Williams played all but one game during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he averaged just 3.6 yards per carry during that time. Comparatively, he had averaged 4.4 yards per carry across the 21 NFL games he played before the injury.
Williams felt like the malady, which created instability in his knee, hampered him over the last two seasons. He no longer believes that will be the case ahead of his first season with the Cowboys.
“It just depends on who you are, it depends on your body… mine might take this amount of time, but somebody else might be different,” Williams said when asked about his recovery.
Williams will now look to win playing time in Dallas’ wide-open backfield rotation. The 25-year-old will compete for carries with holdover Deuce Vaughn, fellow veteran signee Miles Sanders and rookie draft picks Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.
Regardless of his role, Williams is simply happy to have a chance to regain his once-promising form in Dallas.
“It’s a lot that goes into it that people don’t really understand,” he said. “Just to be back out here and have another opportunity and chance to show myself, I can’t ask for nothing else.”
