Vasco taunt first, but Fluminense turn derby around to win

At Maracanã, Fluminense came from behind to defeat Vasco 2-1 this Saturday (24), in the opening of the tenth round of the Brasileirão 2025.

With this result, the Tricolor extended its advantage over the rival in the 2020-2025 period. Now, there are five wins for Flu, four draws, and only two victories for Cruz-Maltino.

The initial stage did not have much technical brilliance, on the contrary, with individual errors on both sides.

Vasco opened the scoring with João Victor, heading in a free-kick from Piton into the area, but Fluminense equalized after Lima’s header was saved by Léo Jardim, and Vegetti accidentally sent it into his own net with his chest.

After the break, the classic had some “back-and-forth” moments, with both teams launching themselves openly into the attack, but still with technical issues compromising the good execution of plays.

However, in the final stretch, Guga unleashed a powerful shot from outside the area, unstoppable for Léo Jardim, and secured Fluminense’s comeback in the classic.

With the comeback victory, after two rounds without winning, Fluminense reached 17 points and climbed to fifth position.

Meanwhile, Vasco remained with 10 points and stayed in 13th place on the table.

Cruz-Maltino returns to the field next Tuesday (27), when they host Melgar at São Januário, for the last round of the 2025 Conmebol Sudamericana group stage.

The Tricolor das Laranjeiras will play on Thursday (29), when they host Once Caldas at Maracanã, also for the continental tournament.

In the Brasileirão, Vasco plays on Saturday (31) against RB Bragantino at São Januário, for the 11th round, and Fluminense visits Internacional at Beira-Rio on Sunday (1).
