Shedeur Sanders is a poor fit in Kellen Moore’s offense

There’s a saying in dominos, “all money, ain’t good money.” That philosophy applies to drafting as well.

The New Orleans Saints need a quarterback to replace Derek Carr and lead the franchise through the future, but it has to be the right prospect, not just any prospect. Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski doesn’t believe that prospect is Shedeur Sanders and lists New Orleans as the fourth worst place Sanders could land in the NFL draft.

While Sanders would fit the need, Sobleski doesn’t believe he’s a good schematic fit with Kellen Moore. ” In two of the past three seasons while serving as the offensive coordinator between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, Moore’s quarterbacks ranked among the league’s top 10 in average air yards per attempt,” Sobleski wrote.

Moore has stressed versatility within his offense, so this may not be an issue. Sobleski is viewing this trend as a preference of Moore’s, and ideally he would find someone who fits this component rather than having to “cater his offense to Sanders since he’s quite different from both Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott.”

Sobleski didn’t limit his hesitation to scheme fit. He also believes Sanders is limited in the same fashion that Carr is. In Sobleski’s eyes, the desire to move on from Carr “is rooted in a lot of the same reasons why some evaluators don’t necessarily see Sanders as a top-flight quarterback prospect.”

Both guys are on schedule throwers who struggle when asked to make plays out of structure. That limitation is vital regardless of what scheme you’re in. Sobleski views the peak for Sanders as Jared Goff. That would be a quality player but not what a team would be looking for in the top-10
