Doechii gave the slingback heel a professorial makeover last night. The rapper embraced the geek chic trend once again while performing at Hudson Yards in New York City.

Doechii combined stiletto pointed toe pumps with knee-high socks during her show for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge launch. She paired her trending sock and slingback combination with a bubble hem cropped take on a trench coat with billowy sleeves, a white button up shirt with a red and silver striped tie, and a pair of square rim glasses. Doechii finished the look with hoop earrings and a red lip.

The “Denial Is a River” artist’s heels were fitting considering her performance took place at the venue, Edge NYC, which happens to be the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, offering 360 degree views of the city.

Socks have become a go-to sartorial statement for celebrities over the past few years, between the sock and slingback trend and the sock and sandals trend. Last year at the Jingle Ball Meghan Trainer put a yuletide twist on the combination in a pair of feather-trimmed black socks and ruby slipper-like red pointed toe pumps. Meanwhile Kandi Burruss channeled the sheer trend and combined stocking-like ankle socks with angular stiletto-heel sandals and Willow Smith stepped out in thigh-high socks and high heel sandals at the Acne Studios Womenswear Spring-Summer 2025 show.

At the beginning of May, Doechii brought fashion socks to the red carpet at the Met Gala. For the occasion she was outfitted in a white and grey monogrammed and checkered Louis Vuitton suit, which she accessorized with an oversized bow tie, platform Mary Jane shoes, and a pair of mid-calf socks — all in burgundy, this past year’s breakout color.

Shoe wise, Doechii is always keeping her fans guessing in a wide variety of styles. The rapper, who has favored looks by Thom Browne and Maison Margiela, has put her stamp on strappy sandal heels, angular platform loafers, buckle-laden pointed toe slingbacks, fringe fur boots, knee-high stiletto boots, and combat boots.
