Aussie forward listed as first-rounder in one mock draft

Alex Toohey is considered one of the top international prospects in the 2025 NBA draft, and the Australian is projected to be a first-round pick in one mock draft.

Toohey averaged 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists on 30.2% shooting from 3-point range in 30 appearances with the Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League. He was rewarded with the NBL Next Generation Award, given to the top player under 25.

The 6-foot-8 forward is highly touted after two seasons with the Kings, given his offensive skill set and 6-foot, 10 3/4-inch wingspan. He is projected to be the 27th pick in the latest mock draft by Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win, as a result.

Australia’s Alex Toohey is a fascinating prospect who contributes well on both sides of the floor. He is a legitimately strong wing defender whose Defensive Statistical Impact (DSI) ranks as the best among those who have played more than one game in Australia’s NBL this season, per Cerebro Sports.

Toohey competed in the combine earlier this month, averaging 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in two scrimmage games. He also recorded a 2.90-second time in the shuttle run, tied for the 16th-fastest mark among all participants this year.

The 21-year-old showed improvement with his 3-point shot this past season after converting 27.3% from beyond the arc in his first year in Sydney. He showcased that improved shot in the combine, connecting on 61.2% of his attempts in two 3-point drills.

Toohey played with the Kings as part of the Next Stars program, which has also helped the likes of LaMelo Ball, Josh Giddey and Alexandre Sarr, among others. He is looking to become the next player to hear his name called in the NBA draft after spending time in the NBL.
