Taylor Swift Marries Disco Glam & Y2K Trends in Gucci in New York City

Taylor Swift wore a head-to-toe Gucci look during a night out in New York City on Saturday. The singer chose a black mini dress embroidered with crystals, styled with silver leather platform heels and a black Bamboo 1947 top handle bag, all from the Italian fashion house.

Her shoes featured a chunky block heel, high platform, rounded toe and delicate ankle strap — a silhouette associated with the 1970s disco era and revived frequently in contemporary street style. The silver metallic finish gave the heels a futuristic quality, aligning with the resurgence of early 2000s-inspired indie sleaze styling. The exaggerated shape added height while anchoring the clean lines of her dress, which featured slim straps and crystal trim at the neckline and hem.

Swift completed the look with softly waved hair and a bold red lip — a combination she’s consistently worn on red carpets and off-duty alike.

The singer’s New York City appearance marked a rare outing since wrapping her Eras Tour, which ran from May to July 2024. She has kept a relatively low profile since, aside from public support for boyfriend Travis Kelce during this year’s Super Bowl.

This platform footwear continues a pattern for Swift, who frequently opts for elevated silhouettes. Last October, she wore Louis Vuitton platform boots paired with a Gucci corset and pleated miniskirt for a night out in Manhattan. In December 2024, she paired ultra-high Versace mules with a gold corset and skirt by Annie’s Ivy during another New York City appearance.

Gucci remains a consistent element in Swift’s wardrobe. Last year, she wore a custom green Gucci gown and Christian Louboutin pumps to the 2024 Golden Globe Awards in January. According to data from Launchmetrics, Swift generated $319.2 million in media impact value during the 2024 awards season across appearances with luxury brands including Gucci, Dior and Schiaparelli.

While the majority of 2024 was defined by her Eras Tour, Swift’s limited red carpet and street style appearances continue to highlight her impact on luxury fashion, particularly through her choice of footwear.
