“Obviously Chanel’s name speaks for itself, but it’s also fun to celebrate Tribeca—you know, we actually just moved to Tribeca, so this is our neighborhood spot now,” Jon Hamm told Vogue as he arrived arm in arm with wife Osceola at The Odeon. The couple, currently filming season two of Neighbors and Friends, mused about the joy of shooting in New York City during the summer. “There’s just nothing like it.”

On Monday evening, Chanel hosted its 18th annual Tribeca Festival Artists Dinner, honoring the artists who contributed original works for this year’s Festival award-winning filmmakers. The contributing artists, selected by curator Zoe Lukov, included Alteronce Gumby, Faith Wilding, Jane Dickson, Jeffrey Meris, Lauren Halsey, Marilyn Minter, Naudline Pierre, Raúl de Nieves, Simphiwe Ndzube, and Tuan Andrew Nguyen.

Given the event takes place during the Tribeca Film Festival, there was no more fitting venue than The Odeon—the neighborhood’s longtime haunt for artists, auteurs, and the occasional editor-in-chief. Chanel, never one to leave a detail unattended, dressed nearly every guest in black-and-white finery from the house. Among them: Blake Lively in a white knit floral cocktail dress, joined by her niece Kate Johnson for a family night out; sisters Grace Gummer and Louisa Jacobson; and Hamm with his wife and Friends co-star Anna Osceola.

Meanwhile, Robert De Niro—king of Tribeca—held court in one of The Odeon’s hallowed booths, a fixture as iconic as the man himself.

Dinner (steak frites, naturally) gave way to photo booth revelry courtesy of the artist JR, a past participant in the Chanel Tribeca Festival Artist Awards Program (2019). This year’s setup? A tongue-in-cheek tableau resembling the crated transport of precious artworks. In one image, Blake Lively is waist-deep in packing materials; in another, three sets of gloved hands gently lower De Niro into a wooden crate as if he were headed for MoMA’s permanent collection. The message was clear: these guests are treasures—and Chanel knows how to handle them accordingly.

“Especially in film, we’re all working together, and it always feels great to support each other,” said Sofia Coppola, who praised the house’s long-standing support of both cinema and the arts. She also shared her summer playlist: Mk.gee and her daughter, Romy Mars.

By the time sundaes were served and artist-designed books were flipped through (a Chanel dinner tradition), it was clear: this wasn’t just an elegant evening—it was a love letter to creative collaboration, Tribeca-style.
