We are examining one player on the Eagles’ roster bubble at each offensive position following the offseason workout program and mandatory minicamp
Philadelphia had one of the lightest off-season workloads following a Super Bowl 59 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February. The Eagles had six OTA sessions over their nine-week workout program and finished the spring and early summer off with a one-day mandatory mini-camp with perfect attendance from all 90 players on the roster.
Philadelphia is loaded at several key positions on offense, but reserve roles and tight end offer the most intense competitions. With the team on a five-week break until training camp, we’re looking at one player on the roster bubble at each offensive position.
QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
The Eagles acquired the former UCLA star in a trade that sent Kenny Pickett to Cleveland. Thompson-Robinson offered elite athleticism at the position when analyzing the move. Fast-forward a few weeks, and Philadelphia drafted former Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the sixth round. The former St. Joe’s Prep star displayed a strong arm during the OTAs and clearly leapfrogged Thompson-Robinson on the depth chart. Philadelphia will carry four quarterbacks throughout the summer, but Roseman drafted McCord, and he fits what the Eagles do with the deep ball.
RB Lew Nichols
Philadelphia will enter training camp with seven running backs on the depth chart after adding two talented undrafted free agents at the position, and they are stacked in the top three of the depth chart. Nichols spent time with Philadelphia during Training Camp and the preseason in 2024 and returned to the practice squad following the regular season with a reserve/futures deal. Nichols (5-10, 220 pounds) rushed for 3,061 yards, added 575 receiving yards, and scored 29 total touchdowns in 32 games at Central Michigan. He was the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, but looks to be one of four ball carriers who could be released.
WR Elijah Cooks
Philadelphia has 12 players on the roster at the wide receiver position, and Cooks initially finds himself behind two top-ten players, two 2024 draft picks, Jahan Dotson and Terrace Marshall. Add in Danny Gray having a strong off-season, and it’s an uphill battle for Cooks, Giles Jackson, Taylor Morin, and Darius Cooper. Cooks signed with the Eagles’ practice squad on Jan. 14 after spending most of the 2024 season on the Jaguars’ practice squad. The 26-year-old wideout will be on Philadelphia’s 90-man roster for the start of the new league year, which allowed him to participate in OTAs, minicamps, and training camps.
TE Nick Muse
With Dallas Goedert officially returning, an intriguing training camp battle is down to the third spot on the depth chart. Grant Calcaterra is the clear No. 2 guy, while Muse, Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins, Kylen Granson, and Harrison Bryant will compete for the third spot. Muse did not see any game action with the Eagles last postseason after being signed to the practice squad on Jan. 22.
OL Brett Toth
Philadelphia added three offensive linemen in the NFL draft and has been stocking up on depth pieces like Kendall Lamm and Matt Pryor all offseason. Laekin Vakalahi will make the team as the International Pathway representative, leaving the veteran Toth to battle with veterans Darian Kinnard, second-year player Trevor Keegan, and undrafted rookie Marcus Tate.
