Barcelona’s saga with Vitor Roque was unfortunate, to say the least, for the Brazilian national never really got going in Catalonia and turned out to be a liability for the club.

The repercussions of the horror deal, however, continue to haunt Barcelona and it now appears that the club will lose out on a significant chunk of money indirectly because of Roque’s story once more.

After all, the player was on loan at Real Betis when Palmeiras presented an offer to sign him and the Blaugrana had to accept some unfavourable terms to convince Los Verdiblancos to sanction the player’s departure mid-season.

Ez Abde, the protagonist

As relayed in a recent report by SPORT, the aforementioned repercussion of Roque’s departure will be seen in the impending departure of Ez Abde who is set to leave Real Betis for Como.

While selling the player to the Seville-based side, Barcelona retained 50% of any future sale of the player but Real Betis demanded an additional 30% when the Catalans approached them to relieve Vitor Roque from his contract.

Los Verdiblancos are under pressure to sell players to set the books straight and have seen Ez Abde as one of their most saleable assets despite his prominence under Manuel Pellegrini. Their decision to ask for an added percentage, thus, was strategic.

The player now has a complete agreement with Como in the Serie A, and while the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement, a transfer fee of close to €18 million is rumoured.

Originally, Barcelona would be entitled to half of that sum, but the altered agreement sees them receive just €3.6 million with Real Betis taking €14.4 million.

The Moroccan star rejected offers from Saudi Arabia and the Bundesliga before accepting Como’s offer and sees it to be a good fit for him given the predominance of Spaniards at the club.

It is safe to say, however, that Barcelona have stood to lose big in the player’s case for they should well have had another €5.4 million in their coffers.
