Updated look at the offense after minicamp

With offseason programs behind us, here is an updated look at the Colts’ depth chart on offense.

With offseason programs now behind us, the Indianapolis Colts will break until July 22nd, when the team reconvenes for training camp.

Ultimately, it is during training camp and in the preseason, when the intensity is turned up and the pads come on, that we will begin to get a much better idea of where positional battles stand and what the full 53-man roster could look like.

Admittedly, that can be difficult information to glean during OTAs and minicamp, when the pads aren’t on and the focus is on installs.

But nonetheless, there are still players who stand out during this time of the year, and we also get glimpses into potential rotations, along with seeing who is playing with the first, second, and third team units.

So, given what we know at this time, what might the Colts’ depth chart on the offensive side of the football look like?

  • Anthony Richardson | Daniel Jones
  • Riley Leonard
  • Jason Bean

With it being an “open competition” for the starting quarterback job, Richardson and Jones are sharing that top spot. With Richardson sidelined, Jones got all of the first-team reps for most of OTAs and all of training camp, and Shane Steichen was “very pleased” with what he saw. Jones’ performance and Richardson’s absence in early June won’t determine the quarterback competition, but Richardson has to make up ground when he returns.

  • Jonathan Taylor
  • Khalil Herbert
  • DJ Giddens
  • Tyler Goodson
  • Salvon Ahmed
  • Ulysses Bentley IV

Giddens, Herbert, and Goodson are competing for playing time behind Taylor and the final two roster spots. For now, with Herbert’s experience, I’ll give him the edge over Giddens, but I expect we’ll see both players this season. With the Colts wanting more production at the backup running back spot, I left Goodson off my recent roster prediction, with the thought being that the Colts would go in a different direction this season.

Indianapolis Colts tight ends

  • Tyler Warren
  • Mo Alie-Cox
  • Drew Ogletree
  • Will Mallory
  • Jelani Woods
  • Sean McKeon
  • Albert Okwuegbunam
  • Maximilian Mang

Will Mallory was one of the standout performers over the last few weeks, which puts him in that fourth spot on this tight end depth chart. Woods has to show he can stay healthy. Presumably, he and Mallory will be competing for that passing-catching first role on this team.

Indianapolis Colts wide receivers

  • Michael Pittman
  • Josh Downs
  • Alec Pierce
  • AD Mitchell
  • Anthony Gould
  • Ashton Dulin
  • DJ Montgomery
  • Ajou Ajou
  • Laquan Treadwell
  • Tyler Kahmann
  • Coleman Owen
  • Landon Parker
  • Blayne Taylor

There isn’t much mystery at this position group. We know who the six receivers are that will make up the final roster. AD Mitchell will begin as the fourth option on the depth chart, but he’s coming off a strong performance during OTAs and minicamp, and if he can continue to show that consistency, he’ll earn more opportunities, even if he doesn’t climb up the depth chart.

Indianapolis Colts offensive linemen

  • C Tanor Bortolini
  • C Danny Pinter
  • C Wesley French
  • C Mose Vavao
  • G Quenton Nelson
  • G Matt Goncalves
  • G Josh Sills
  • G Dalton Tucker
  • OT Bernhard Raimann
  • OT Braden Smith
  • OT Jalen Travis
  • OT Blake Freeland
  • OT Luke Tenuta
  • OT Jack Wilson
  • OT Marshall Foerner

The first and second units here seem to be pretty well established. The starters are Raimann, Nelson, Bortolini, Goncalves, and Smith. While the second unit consisted of Freeland, Sills, Pinter, Tucker, and Travis. Offensive line coach Tony Sparano Jr. said that Bortolini will be competing with Pinter for the starting job and Goncalves with the other guards, but they are the presumed starters.
