Angel Reese Singles Out One Sky Teammate After Sunday’s Win Against Sun originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It was Angel Reese who made headlines for the Chicago Sky on Sunday after the All-Star forward secured her first career triple-double. Reese went off in their 78-66 win over the Connecticut Sun, amassing 11 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and two blocks in 36 minutes of action.
Reese didn’t do it all by herself, though. She got a lot of help from her teammates in this one, including rookie Hailey Van Lith, who scored a career-high 16 points off the bench.
Reese had some strong words for Van Lith after the win, but it wasn’t just the former TCU star who drew Reese’s attention during the latter’s postgame press conference.
Reese singled out teammate Michaela Onyenwere, who scored seven points off the bench on Sunday in 16 minutes of action.
“Michaela is our glue,” Reese said, via Sky reporter Karli Bell. “She’s just a great teammate. She’s like our 6th man.”
Onyenwere is no superstar, but as Reese said, the 6-foot forward is a crucial member of the squad. The Sky need quality minutes from the former Rookie of the Year whenever she checks into the game, and this is exactly what Onyenwere did on Sunday against Connecticut.
In 10 games played this season, Onyenwere has put up averages of 3.2 points and 1.0 rebounds in 11.9 minutes off the bench.
According to Reese, Onyenwere’s importance to the team goes beyond what she does on the court. The fifth-year forward is, as Reese put it, the “glue” that keeps the team together.
