Chelsea and Liverpool open talks for Man Utd and Forest transfer target

Chelsea and Liverpool have both reportedly entered early talks over a deal for Lyon forward Malick Fofana in the summer transfer window.

The Belgium international has garnered a lot of interest from Premier League clubs following a breakout season in which he scored 11 goals in all competitions.

Fofana, who turned 20 at the end of March, particularly impressed in the Uefa Europa League, scoring six goals during Lyon’s run to the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Manchester United.

L’Equipe claim that Chelsea have opened casual talks with the Ligue 1 outfit about a potential deal.

A new report from the French outlet says that Liverpool have entered talks with Fofana’s agents, adding that Manchester United are also interested in the player.

Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest, although they are not considered serious contenders for his signature.

Lyon are said to want €50 million (£42.6m) for Fofana, who is one of several players who could leave the club this summer to ease their financial concerns.

They have already sold Rayan Cherki to Manchester City for €40m, loaned out Said Benrahma out to Saudi Pro League outfit NEOM with a buy option for €12m, and released former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Fofana began his senior career at Belgian Pro League side Gent before joining Lyon for a €17m transfer fee, plus €5m in add-ons in 2023. He has since scored 15 goals in 62 appearances across the past two seasons.

Gent will receive 20 percent of any future fee Lyon receive for the player.
