2024 Season Review

Anderson spent most of the 2024 season on the Colts’ practice squad. However, as the team navigated injuries at linebacker, Anderson did appear in three games last season.

In Week 7 against Miami, he was elevated from the practice squad to the game day roster. Prior to Week 11, Anderson was signed to the 53-man roster, where he stayed for two weeks before being released prior to Week 13. He was then signed back to the practice squad the following week.

Over those three games against Miami, the New York Jets, and Detroit Lions, Anderson played 40 total special teams snaps, appearing on the kick return, kick coverage, and punt return units.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season

As we mentioned when previewing fellow linebacker Austin Ajiake, perhaps this season more so than last, there is an opportunity for Anderson to make a roster push.

For one, this is a brand new defensive scheme that is being implemented, and with that can come opportunities, with everyone starting from scratch, to a degree.

In addition to that, outside of Zaire Franklin, this is a very inexperienced Colts’ linebacker room, with Jaylon Carlies’ 242 career defensive snaps being the second-most at this position. So, it’s not as if there are a bunch of established players here either.

Now, having said that, at the linebacker position in particular, the ability to contribute on special teams is a must. And while last season, the Colts called on Anderson to fill that role when they were shorthanded, Segun Olubi, Cameron McGrone, and Joe Bachie have all played quite a bit on that unit in their careers.

So, perhaps it is true that there is more opportunity here than in past years to break through and make the 53-man roster. But it’s also true that there still are several players that Anderson has to leap on the depth chart, which makes the practice squad potentially the most likely landing spot for Anderson.
