Report: Newcastle worried Chelsea could hijack move for £70m rated top transfer target

Newcastle are worried their move for Brighton forward Joao Pedro will be hijacked by Chelsea according to talkSPORT.

The Blues are set for another busy summer and have already completed the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30m.

More new faces are expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea looking for a versatile forward, left winger and centre back to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

With Delap signed the most pressing priority for Chelsea is a left winger and the Blues are strongly pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

As well as a left winger Chelsea are also in the market for a versatile forward given Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix are both set to leave the club.

However, talkSPORT have reported Newcastle fear their move for Pedro could be hijacked by Chelsea, with Brighton said to value the 23-year-old at around £70m.

Pedro is Brighton’s record signing having joined from Watford for £30m in 2023 and he scored ten Premier League goals last season.

Whilst links to Pedro have gone quiet in recent weeks, Chelsea could make a move for West Ham forward Kudus, who they were linked with back in 2023.

Kudus can cover multiple positions across the frontline which will certainly appeal to Maresca, and it’s thought West Ham will allow the Ghana international to leave for less than the £85m clause in his contract.

Chelsea are said to have tried a swap deal with the Hammers which included Robert Sanchez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but that was believed to have been rejected.
