Bernard Arnault grapples with LVMH’s downturn
LVMH’s Bernard Arnault is facing the company’s worst financial decline since he became CEO in 1989, Bloomberg reported. This is due to several factors, such as the threat of tariff hikes, China’s slowing luxury spending and losing consumer ground to cost-sensitive competitors. Investors also question Arnault’s succession plan and are uneasy that the longtime executive shows no signs of taking a step back, despite involving his children in the business. {Bloomberg/paywalled}
The luxury market faces its first slowdown in 15 years
Luxury spending is seeing its first global decline in 15 years, per a report by Bain and Altagamma. According to the study, the market faced a 1% decrease in 2024, with the possibility of a further dip in 2025. Geopolitical wars, tarrifs and consumers reluctant to spend have all contributed to the slowdown. That said, investors and executives are optimistic the industry will regain its traction. The report advises brands to refocus on creating lasting, high-quality products, fostering consumer relationships and delivering customer-centric experiences. {WWD/paywalled}

The New York Times profiles Sara Ziff
In an interview with The New York Times‘ Yola Mzizi, longtime model Sara Ziff discussed why she’s advocating to protect models’ rights and redefine industry standards. Her nonprofit, Model Alliance, largely backed the newly implemented Fashion Workers Act, which is legislation that will grant models basic workplace rights, including meal breaks, overtime pay, protection against harassment and discrimination and regulations on how modeling agencies deal with their clients. “I know we’re not coal miners, but we’re workers, and we deserve to have basic rights and protections on the job,” Ziff said. {The New York Times/paywalled}
Why Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion is losing its edge
In “Sex and the City”‘s reboot, “And Just Like That…”, The Washington Post‘s Rachel Tashjian argued that Carrie Bradshaw is failing to find her fashion footing. Where Bradshaw used to be praised for her eclectic, trendsetting tendencies, she now seems to be chasing after her style. “Many of Carrie’s looks are less ridiculous than they are simply boring and a little weird, like the sale rack at Anthropologie in late July. […] It is the wardrobe of a woman with too much money and not enough to think about,” Tashjian wrote. {The Washington Post/paywalled}
