The Spanish Football Federation confirmed that the player did not participate in the recent friendly match against Japan due to fever. After medical tests, doctors found that she suffers from viral meningitis. Although this variant is generally less severe than bacterial meningitis, it requires rest and hospital follow-up.

National coach Montse Tomé acknowledged that the situation is worrying but under control. In a press conference, she explained that there is no fixed timeline for the player’s recovery, but the coaching staff still hopes that she will be available during the tournament. “We will wait for her until the end,” she said.

Bonmatí herself shared a photo from her hospital bed on social media, cheering on her teammates while watching the game on TV. Her message sparked a wave of support from fans, teammates, and women’s football personalities.

Spain will travel to Switzerland in the coming days, where they will make their debut against Portugal on July 3. Bonmatí’s possible absence would be a significant setback for the national team.
