Rockets signing former Magic wing Kevon Harris to two-way contract

Kevon Harris, who shot above 40% on 3-pointers in the NBA G League last season, is reportedly signing a two-way contract with the Rockets.

With a two-way contract slot available after not tendering a two-way qualifying offer to Jack McVeigh, the Rockets are reportedly signing Kevon Harris to the open spot. Presumably, Harris will now be a candidate to play for Houston at the NBA’s 2025 summer league, which starts late next week.

“Harris was G League Next Up Game MVP and signed a 10-day deal with the Atlanta Hawks last season,” said HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, who broke the news. “He averaged 19.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in the G League.”

The two-way deal will allow Harris to go back and forth next season between the Rockets and Houston’s NBA G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Vipers.

Harris is a 6-foot-5, 216-pound wing player who played in college at Stephen F. Austin. Known for his hustle and athleticism, Harris went undrafted in 2020 but worked his way into the NBA by the 2022-23 season. In 34 games with the Orlando Magic, he averaged 4.1 points (43.9% FG, 37.2% on 3-pointers) and 2.1 rebounds in 13.4 minutes.

Now 28 years old, Harris has played in the G League during at least a portion of all five years since his college career ended. During that time, he has steadily improved as a shooter, as evidenced by his 40.2% clip from 3-point range last season on 5.8 attempts per game. Over Harris’ first two G League seasons (2020-21 and 2021-22), he shot approximately 34% from deep.

In contrast to McVeigh, the Rockets did issue a two-way qualifying offer to center N’Faly Dante, and forward David Roddy is already on a two-way contract for 2025-26. So, as things stand, it appears Harris, Dante, and Roddy are in line for Houston’s two-way roles.
