Oasis kicked off their reunion tour Friday night in Cardiff, Wales, and paid tribute to the late Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car crash in Spain along with his brother, André Silva, on Thursday.
As the band finished their performance of “Live Forever,” projectors behind the stage displayed an image of Jota from behind in his No. 20 Liverpool jersey. That drew a loud ovation from the sold-out crowd inside Principality Stadium.
Oasis frontmen, Liam and Noel Gallagher, are noted fans of Manchester City, Liverpool’s Premier League rivals.

Supporting act Cast honored Jota earlier in the show with lead singer John Power dedicating “Walkaway” to Jota. “This is Walkaway. This one is for Diogo Jota. Take it easy, brother,” Power said.

Tributes continue as Jota, Silva are laid to rest
The investigation into what caused the crash that killed Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, remains ongoing. The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed that the car they were in went off the road near Zamora, Spain. The Lamborghini was found in flames and firefighters were called in to prevent the fire from spreading.
Investigators are unsure who was driving the car, and are looking into whether a blown tire led to the crash, which occurred shortly after midnight local time.

The brothers’ bodies were returned to Portugal on Thursday and a wake was held in Gondomar on Friday. Members of the football world, including many current and former teammates were in attendance during Saturday’s funeral.
Tributes from around the world continued for the brothers in the days after the crash. Portugal teammates João Cancelo and Rúben Neves were in Orlando for the FIFA Club World Cup and were emotional when a moment of silence took place before their match with Al Hilal against Fluminense on Friday.
At Wimbledon, Portuguese tennis players Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral wore black ribbons during their individual matches on Friday. The All-England Club has a strict all-white dress code for players, but Borges and Cabral were given special permission to wear the ribbons.
