Lily Collins blended texture and playful color with ease at Wimbledon on Sunday, joining Emirates as a guest in a vibrant look grounded by one of summer 2025’s standout shoe trends: the mesh ballet flat.
The actress and Calvin Klein campaign star wore Alaïa’s Ballet Flats in Laminated Fishnet — a metallic gold take on the brand’s signature see-through silhouette. Crafted in Italy, the slip-ons feature a classical Japanese–inspired shape with a subtle squared toe and snug rubber sole.

The open-weave construction wraps the foot in gold mesh from toe to heel, finished with a matching leather trim at the collar and a centered metallic bow. The result is airy but structured, offering just enough shimmer to echo the formality of the day without overpowering the look.

She paired the shoes with the Colibrì Dress by Stella Jean, a cotton poplin midi with light blue and white vertical stripes. The structured skirt found balance in a bright bralette-style top, detailed with embroidered birds in bright colors. Macramé-inspired threadwork and adjustable straps added a tactile, handmade feel — and a nod to the artisanal vibe echoed in her shoes.
As for accessories and glam, Collins skipped a handbag, choosing instead minimal jewelry: simple earrings and a fresh-faced look with flushed cheeks, glossy lips and a softly parted bob.
Mesh ballet flats caught on in 2024, but in 2025, designers have taken the trend further with woven and crochet versions that emphasize texture, subtle shine, and breathability. Alongside Alaïa, brands like Simone Rocha, Hvóya and The Row have introduced ballet flats with transparent paneling, jelly texture or open-weave designs that elevate ventilation into a design feature.

Now in its 17th year as Official Airline Partner of The Championships, Emirates has continued to host a steady stream of actors, creatives and athletes at Wimbledon. The tournament remains a reliable stage for polished summer dressing, with this year’s guests like Cat Deeley, Ben Shephard, and “Downtown Abbey’s” Jim Carter, favoring crisp cottons, tailored sets and shimmering flats.
