Havaianas is getting in on the 3D-printed footwear trend as the flip-flop trend continues to gain traction in the market.
In September, the Brazilian footwear brand is set to launch its first-ever 3D-printed flip-flop in collaboration with Zellerfeld during Copenhagen Fashion Week.
According to the footwear brand, the silhouette keeps its most recognizable details intact, including Havaianas’ signature rice-grain texture on the footbed and the strap placement, but has reimagined it with a unique rounded shape and a sculptural toe cap. The shoe is printed in one piece using Zellerfeld’s proprietary process in a dense lattice structure that offers cushion.
Ieda Pavani, Havaianas’ global design director, said in a statement that bringing the originality of the flip-flop’s design into new technologies was “key to reinforcing the timelessness” of the brand’s aesthetic.
“It’s a way of honoring our essence while connecting with new audiences who value authenticity, innovation, and purpose,” Pavani said.
Cornelius Schmitt, co-founder and chief executive officer of Zellerfeld, said teaming with the well-known flip-flop brand was a natural move.
“Together with Havaianas, we worked hard to build this design, and in the process developed a brand-new split-toe last that lays the foundation for many printed flip-flops to come, unlocking new possibilities for all creators,” Schmitt said. “This isn’t just a collaboration, it’s yet another major step toward a future where all shoes on earth will be printed. Who doesn’t want some custom-fitted flip flops?”
The Havaianas x Zellerfeld flip-flop will be available in five colorways this September exclusively on Zellerfeld.com.
The news comes just days after the German shoe company announced its first retail activation with Berlin-based sneaker and streetwear retailer Solebox, where customers can order their own 3D-printed, custom fit footwear.
It has also been a business year for Havaianas. In June, its parent company Alpargatas S.A. signed an exclusive distribution agreement for the flip-flop brand for the U.S. and Canada with The Eastman Group. The pair will work together throughout 2025 on a transition process so the new model to have it ready in time for the 2026 season.
