Wisconsin basketball Steven Crowl stats from NBA summer league debut

Former Wisconsin basketball starting center Steven Crowl began his NBA Summer League run with the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

After missing the entirety of Utah’s summer league opener in Salt Lake City, Crowl laced up for his first NBA action on Sunday against the Golden State Warriors. In six minutes of play, he snared one defensive rebound and committed one turnover.

Crowl, who played 153 games during his lengthy tenure as a Badger, arrived in Utah under an Exhibit 10 contract following the conclusion of the 2025 NBA draft. The one-year, non-guaranteed minimum salary deal essentially provides the Minnesota native an opportunity to showcase his skill set during the Summer League window in July.

If successful, Crowl could flip the Exhibit 10 into a two-way deal with the Jazz or find himself on Utah’s G League affiliate. Thus far, he has not received an adequate number of minutes to make that type of jump.

To make matters more difficult, the Jazz roster includes big men Walker Kessler, Jusuf Nurkic, Micah Potter, Kyle Filipowski and Oscar Tshiebwe. Outside of Tshiebwe and Potter, another former Badger, the collection of forwards and centers has largely displayed a capacity to compete in the NBA during regular seasons in the past.

Crowl did work out for the Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Pelicans, Charlotte Hornets and Denver Nuggets in the weeks preceding the draft, so he could potentially look to secure another opportunity with an organization’s G League program down the line. His 9.9-point, 5.3-rebound, 2.4-assist season off 54% shooting from the floor and 41% from deep as a senior suggest he could provide a bench spark in the post as a professional, whether it be overseas or in the NBA’s developmental pipeline.

The Jazz are scheduled to tip off against the Washington Wizards in the organization’s next Summer League game on Wednesday, July 16.
