PFF puts one 2026 Saints free agent among top 10 at their position

The New Orleans Saints had some big decisions to make in free agency with players like Paulson Adebo, Chase Young and Juwan Johnson this past offseason. The 2026 class could signal a lot of change, even though they don’t have a ton of “top players” around the league.

It’s early, but Pro Football Focus analyst Mason Cameron recently released a top 10 ranking of every position for the 2026 free agency class. The only Saints player listed was Tyrann Mathieu, who was ranked as the ninth-best safety available, and it feels like he will either be in New Orleans or retired.

Mathieu, entering his age-33 campaign and 13th year in the NFL, has been back home with the Saints since 2022. He has lived up to whatever hype there was before signing with 228 tackles, 24 passes broken up and 10 interceptions. It’s hard to imagine him staying in the NFL at age 34 with a new team at this point, but he’s still playing well, so who knows.

If anything, New Orleans will try to renegotiate Mathieu’s deal once again to keep him with the team. He is on the books for a $9.2 million cap hit either way for next season due to a void year in his contract.

Some others are important to the Saints’ success, but just aren’t considered top-10 talents in their positions by PFF. Taysom Hill, Demario Davis and Cameron Jordan are all franchise legends, but are far past their primes. Hill will be the youngest of the group, and he’ll be 36 during the 2026 season.

Rashid Shaheed, Alontae Taylor and Foster Moreau will also be free agents. Those three seem like no-brainers to re-sign. They have made their impacts and are going to be crucial pieces in 2025. Shaheed may need to stay healthy to earn a big contract. Trevor Penning is the future free agent with the most to prove this season. He has been underwhelming to start his career, but will now have a new opportunity to prove his worth as a guard this time around.
