Giants’ Bryce Ford-Wheaton suffers torn Achilles: ‘Devastated’

New York Giants wide receiver and special teams ace Bryce Ford-Wheaton went down after suffering what appeared to be a severe leg injury in practice on Sunday. He was eventually carted off the field while surrounded by teammates.

The talented 6-foot-3, 220-pound Ford-Wheaton returned to the team last season after suffering a torn ACL in his rookie year, but caught an unlikely break once again.

Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that Ford-Wheaton suffered a torn Achilles and is likely out for the remainder of the season.

A “devastated” Ford-Wheaton vowed to return stronger and better than ever.

Signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of West Virginia in 2023, Ford-Wheaton has flashed as a talented special teams player with impressive size, strength, and speed. However, he’s been hampered by injury since arriving in the NFL and now faces a long road back.

In 14 games last season, Ford-Wheaton recorded five tackles (four solo) and returned an Isaiah Simmons blocked field goal for a touchdown.

Entering training camp this summer, Ford-Wheaton was up against a slew of undrafted rookie free agents, including fellow wide receiver Dalen Cambre, for a roster spot. He will now land on injured reserve (IR) and likely set his sights on the 2026 season.

Ford-Wheaton is in the final year of his UDFA deal and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent (RFA) in March.
