WNBA Used One Word to Describe Rookie Paige Bueckers After Wings’ Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Paige Bueckers had it going again on Friday night as the Dallas Wings took on the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center in San Francisco. The highly touted rookie led her team with 17 points on 7-of-15 from the field, along with six assists, four steals and two 3-pointers in the game.

Despite Bueckers’ strong play, the Wings still lost 86-76 thanks in large part to Valkyries veteran Tiffany Hayes, who dropped 17 points and five assists in the game.

The WNBA Reacts to Paige Bueckers’ Big Night

The WNBA, however, could not ignore Bueckers’ performance in the loss. The league took to social media shortly after the final buzzer to share its one-word description of the 23-year-old after Thursday’s heroics.

“This rook is SPECIAL 💫” the league posted on X.

As the post indicates, Bueckers made history in this one yet again by becoming the first player to total at least 300 points and 100 assists in their first 20 games. This speaks volumes about how incredible the former UConn superstar has been in her debut season for the Wings.

Wings Continue to Struggle Amid Bueckers’ Strong Season

Bueckers’ excellent campaign hasn’t been enough to carry Dallas, though. The Wings still remain one of the worst teams in the league. Their 7-18 record is the second-worst in the WNBA, ahead of only the Connecticut Sun, who are 3-20.

Unless the Wings are able to turn things around soon, it doesn’t seem like Bueckers will be in the playoffs in her rookie year. Dallas is five games behind the Valkyries, who occupy the eighth and final playoff spot in the WNBA standings.

Despite the teams’ struggles, it’s hard to deny that the future remains bright for the Wings with Bueckers at the forefront.
