Top-75 NBA Player throws shade on LeBron’s career, calls championships “devalued”

There will always be a debate between NBA eras on who is the best and who did things the right way. Back in the day, players stayed loyal to one team, didn’t team up with other stars, and played a game that looked almost nothing like basketball today.

That’s why comparing eras will always be a fool's errand. It is impossible to know if Wilt Chamberlain would have been able to dominate Giannis Antetokounmpo. Would Michael Jordan have been able to beat Kobe Bryant in one-on-one? We will never find out.

That hasn’t stopped NBA fans and former players from trying to debate who is the greatest and which eras did things right. Perhaps the biggest debate is who is the greatest basketball player of all time? LeBron James or Michael Jordan?

A rival of Jordan, and a top-75 NBA player of all time, John Stockton, recently spoke in an interview on why he believes Jordan’s career was more impressive than LeBron’s.

“I like where guys tighten their belt up and say…let’s go to work. We just got to get better. We got to play harder. We gotta play smarter, instead of just huh, where’s the grass greener? I’m gonna go there and win a championship. I think it devalues that. You’re not climbing the mountain, you’re taking a helicopter to the top.”

Stockton does have a point. LeBron has made a career of finding the best possible winning situation and getting himself into it. Jordan, on the other hand, made what he had work, pretty much all with one team. No trade requests. No forcing his team to trade for better teammates.

There is something to be said about what LeBron has done in his career. He played the game how he thought was best. He manipulated his teams and teammates to make the moves that he thought were best for his legacy and chances at championships.

Would LeBron’s career be more impressive if he won more organically? Probably. However, you can’t say he isn’t one of the greatest to ever do it, even if you don’t like how he did it.
