Kylie Jenner Tests Out ERL’s Supersized Platform Flip-flops

Kylie Jenner has been bouncing around Europe and Los Angeles in a variety of flip-flops and thong sandals this summer. The always-trendy reality star took it a step further, sliding on a pair of supersize platform flip-flops by ERL to head to a photo shoot for her brand Khy.

Jenner shared a behind-the-scenes look at the photo shoot on Instagram on Monday, showing off her laid-back outfit, and captioning the photo: “The energy I’m bringing to my shoot today.”

She paired her towering shoes with a black Brandy Melville Isla cutoff tank top and black Nike sweatpants. She opted for ERL‘s Big flip-flop in black, which is available for preorder for $375. With a height of five inches, the new style transforms the classic ERL flip-flop into a supersized platform and features suede straps, molded EVA rubber and foam. The flip-flops feature a rubber ERL logo on strap.

Designed in Venice Beach, Calif., by Eli Russell Linnetz, the ERL flip-flop comes in three versions — Low, Big and Huge. Each style offers a bold take on a classic silhouette with varying heights. “What I love to do at ERL is twist things or put them in an extreme way,” the designer said in an interview with FN ahead of the launch. “With my background in 3D animation and film, I love to play with proportion and scale in a 3D space where there’s no sense of reality. That’s how these came to form.”

The brand’s Huge flip-flop retails for $1,250 and features an eight-inch, sky-high platform and is made with the same suede straps and molded EVA rubber and foam. The black low flip-flop retails for $185 and features a one-inch sole and suede straps.

ERL launched their flip-flops in July after the founder and designer had been making flip-flops for about four years for look books and campaigns. “Flip-flops have always been a part of our brand DNA,” Linnetz said to FN. “It’s funny to me to hear that now they are trending because flip-flops are part of my everyday life. It’s kind of like what we’ve always been doing, especially as a California-centric brand. It’s also funny because it didn’t even occur to me to sell flip-flops for such a long time, but I think now it makes sense to release them.”

In the last few months, Jenner has stayed on trend and has been showcasing a slew of black flip-flops, popping on the most desirable and popular styles this year, as well as some classic designs. She shared another photo she took of herself during the photo shoot, teasing new elevated basics for Khy, and was wearing a pair of Maison Margiela Tabi Flip-Flops, which she wore earlier in the summer.

For more elevated looks, Jenner popped on thong sandals with a slight heel. To celebrate her grandmother MJ’s birthday, she wore patent leather Amina Muaddi’s Juliette sandals with a sculptural kitten heel and a Miu Miu Viscose dress. She was also spotted wearing the Manolo Blahnik Paterno leather sandals, which are thong sandals with a flared kitten heel, during her stop in Saint-Tropez in July amid her summer vacation throughout Europe.

The reality star was also spotted in a pair of flat Tkees Lily Liners flip-flops, which she shared on Instagram in early July. The Row’s popular City Leather Flip-Flop sandals and The Row’s Dune Classic Sandal in rubber were also part of her rotation, with her wearing the City style in Venice after attending Jeff Bezos’ and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding in June. Jenner also wore a pair of Gimaguas x Havaianas Keys flip-flop, in black, which was decked out with silver keys along the straps.

Flip-flops had quite a renaissance this summer with the casual shoe making appearances on the runway and on the red carpet, expanding the Y2K beach footwear’s reach and turning it into a more elevated shoe option. Celebrities haven’t shied away from wearing the shoes during laid-back outings or to more formal events, with brands leading the charge, like The Row creating $690 sandals and Havaianas collaborating with Dolce & Gabbana.
