Can the Chicago Sky Make the Playoffs Amid 8-Game Losing Streak?

Can the Chicago Sky Make the Playoffs Amid 8-Game Losing Streak? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Chicago Sky are a mess right now, and their playoff hopes continue to dim with every game they drop.

Chicago, which has missed the services of Angel Reese in its last two games, has lost their last eight outings. Seven of those losses were in double digits, the worst one being a 38-point loss to the Seattle Storm.

Overall, during this skid, the Sky have an average losing margin of 20.8 points.

Chicago Sky’s Playoff Chances

Now, according to ESPN’s WNBA Basketball Power Index, the Sky only have a 0.1% chance to qualify for the postseason, the worst odds in the league.

The Connecticut Sun have the same probability as the Sky, while the Dallas Wings aren’t too far at 0.4%.

It’s not surprising why the Sky’s playoff prospects are slim. After all, they are 7-21 on the season, seven games behind the No. 8 seed Golden State Valkyries.

The Sky are not yet mathematically out of postseason contention with 16 games remaining. However, for them to make it, not only will they need to go on a significant winning streak, but they will also need those above them to lose a lot.

Why Is Angel Reese Not Playing?

To make matters worse for Chicago, their best player in Reese remains sidelined as she continues to deal with a back injury.

Reese has already been ruled out for Tuesday’s showdown against the Washington Mystics due to the same issue.

The Sky forward is averaging a career-high 14.2 points along with a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game. Nonetheless, she has played in just 23 games this 2025 and has missed five of the team’s last seven games. Obviously, Chicago is 5-0 in those games she has missed.

It’s unknown when Reese will be able to return, but her absence is definitely a big blow to a team that has already lost starting guard Courtney Vandersloot to season-ending injury less than 10 games into the season.
