Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence drops honest message on Travis Hunter two-way role

Trevor Lawrence has weighed in on the Jacksonville Jaguars possibly using Travis Hunter as a two-way player, offering a candid take on the University of Colorado product potentially playing offense and defense in the NFL.

After back-to-back seasons of missing the playoffs, Lawrence and his teammates will look to snap the small drought. Despite being a rookie, Hunter will play a significant role in whether the Jaguars can challenge for the AFC South division title and reach the postseason.

Perhaps the preseason could determine whether he's a two-way player, but if it's up to Lawrence, the Jaguars' franchise quarterback wants Hunter on offense more than seeing him play defense. Recently, the team had a scrimmage were the rookie played both sides of the football and impressed.

"Obviously, he's playing a little bit of both ways, and he's so talented, man," Lawrence said on NFL Network. "It's hard to keep him off the field. Selfishly, yeah, I definitely want him on offense more. It's almost like, do you want to come catch touchdowns or do you want to maybe break up a pass or two a game?

"That's a decision you’ve got to make. Now, he'll make plays no matter where he's at—quarterback, I hope he plays more offense. But wherever he needs to play to make our team better, because he will make us better, is what's going to happen. All for whatever that is."

It's understandable why Lawrence wants Hunter on offense, as the Jaguars only recorded 19 passing touchdowns last season which was near the bottom of the NFL. Jacksonville was also in the bottom 10 in passing yards (3,477), so the team needs to bolster their attack in the air, which Hunter will be able to do this season.

Nonetheless, Hunter can also impact the Jaguars in the secondary as Jacksonville only had six interceptions and gave up 29 passing touchdowns, which was in the bottom 10. So it will be interesting to see if the Jaguars test out Hunter on offense and defense to see if he can handle the two roles in the NFL or if it's time to decide what position best suits him.
