Sheridan Wilson lands on Rimington Trophy preseason watch list

The preseason honors keep rolling in for Texas Tech, with Sheridan Wilson being named to the Rimington Trophy watch list on Friday. The trophy is presented each year to the nation’s top center by the Boomer Esiason Foundation. There are 40 centers on the watch list, with nine of them being from the Big 12.

Wilson’s impact last season

Wilson started all 13 games for the Red Raiders in 2024 and has been the starting center since fall camp before his sophomore season. Last season, he didn’t allow one sack in his 581 pass-blocking snaps and gave up only 13 pressures, with three quarterback hits and 10 hurries according to PFF.

What is the Rimington Trophy?

The Rimington Trophy is named after Dave Rimington, a consensus first-team All-American center at the University of Nebraska from 1981-1982. During this time, he was the winner of the John Outland Trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman, the first player to win the award twice.

The Rimington Trophy committee uses the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, and Football Writers Association of America to determine the winner of the award. The players will be placed on lists with a mix of guards and tackles, so their 11-man first teams could include two centers. The center that receives the most first-team votes will be the winner.
