Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever find themselves on a two-game losing streak after falling to Alyssa Thomas and the Phoenix Mercury 95-60, dropping to 17-14 on the 2025 WNBA season.

Cunningham spent her first six seasons in the WNBA with the Mercury before getting traded to the Fever over the offseason. On the flip side, DeWanna Bonner, who started the year in Indiana, got her first win over her former team on Thursday.

While Phoenix may have gotten the last laugh, Cunningham had arguably her best game with the Fever.

Sophie Cunningham Impresses in Return to Phoenix

While the star of the game may be Thomas, who recorded her third-straight triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, Cunningham certainly impressed as well. The former Missouri Tigers guard tallied a team-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and 5-of-8 from 3-point range, while adding two rebounds and two assists.

For her season-high performance, the Fever have revealed that Cunningham is their “Stat Leader of the Game,” a twist on the common “Player of the Game” award.

“Sophie u got my and my respect .. so proud of u @sophie_cham ❀❀❀,” added another.
“Sophie đŸ‘đŸ‘đŸ‘đŸ–€,” posted a sixth.

Cunningham recorded a season-high in scoring despite leaving the court late in the second quarter with an apparent injury. But she returned and did everything she could to keep Indiana afloat.

Still, the Fever find themselves in a deeper injury hole following Thursday’s loss. With Clark still out, backup point guard Aari McDonald left the game in the fourth quarter, while Sydney Colson left the game in the first half with a non-contact knee injury.

With the possibility of three point guards sidelined soon, Indiana may explore adding a free agent.
