Davante Adams hasn't even played a game for the Los Angeles Rams, and yet, fans are already worried for his safety.
The Rams signed Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal this offseason with the idea that he'd be the missing piece to their championship puzzle. While that's totally possible, the team's hopes of winning a Super Bowl rest solely on the health of Matthew Stafford. He's currently dealing with an aggravated disc in his back.
With Stafford sidelined right now, the Rams have been letting Jimmy Garoppolo run the first-team offense. Although he has experience playing alongside Adams, it's not exactly the kind of history you want.
During the 2023 season, Adams was so frustrated with Garoppolo’s play on the Las Vegas Raiders that he lobbied for a quarterback change. He told the coaching staff to go with Aidan O’Connell towards the end of the season.
“I love Jimmy. It was never a personal thing … that was just a dark moment in all of our lives. I think all of us were pretty miserable over there,” Adams said.
Well, it might feel personal for Adams after what happened on Thursday.
During joint practice with the New Orleans Saints, Garoppolo tried to hit Adams deep over the middle of the field. That pass was ultimately broken up by two defenders. If it was a real game, Adams would've been on the wrong end of a nasty collision.
Fans claim Garoppolo threw Adams with a "hospital ball" during practice.
"Just like their good old days on the Raiders," one fan said.
"Beginning to wonder if JimmyG hates Adams. Doing this same stuff in Vegas lol," a second fan noted.
"Exactly what Davante was mad about in the ‘Receiver’ show on Netflix. He’s gonna get killed out there," another fan said.
"Another mid season trade request incoming," a social media user wrote.
Here's that play I was talking about. Two DBs right in the area with a chance to lay a big hit on Adams. pic.twitter.com/YcYdVScLeb

Garoppolo has been nothing but complimentary when asked about Adams this offseason.
“Haven’t seen him in a while. Talented receiver. It’ll be fun seeing him again, just getting back on the same page. I’ve seen what he can do before,” Garoppolo told reporters.
Adams has returned the favor so far, but he might change his tune if he takes a few unnecessary hits this season.
