Lisandro Martínez remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from the knee injury that has sidelined him since February. Although the defender has returned to light training, he is not expected back this side of the first international break.

Noussair Mazraoui is also out, having suffered a hamstring problem in training that will keep him sidelined until after United’s game against Fulham next weekend.

There were said to be doubts over two other players, however, goalkeeper Andre Onana, who missed the entire pre-season with a hamstring issue, has returned to training and is likely to start against Arsenal provided there are no late setbacks.

“I feel good, I feel great… hopefully I will be back for the start of the season,” Onana said in the build-up. Amorim confirmed at his press conference that the 29-year-old is available.

Forward Joshua Zirkzee is also pushing for inclusion after a muscular problem kept him out of United’s pre-season fixtures. He has been back in training this week and is also available for selection.

New signing Benjamin Sesko has no injury concerns, though his late arrival has meant limited time with Ruben Amorim’s squad. “Physically, he is ready. He is really smart, he is ready to play, we will see if he is going to start,” Amorim said.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal youngster, Ayden Heaven, is carrying a thigh issue and faces a late test.

With Martínez and Mazraoui both ruled out, United’s defensive options are stretched, but their attacking depth remains strong.

For Arsenal, that means a potential opportunity to exploit weaknesses at the back in a fixture that the Gunners have often struggled with in the Premier League.
