The Cleveland Browns took on the reigning-champion Philadelphia Eagles in their second game of the 2025 preseason and came away with a 22-13 victory, aided in part by a solid debut from rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The third-round pick from Oregon led the Browns on a long opening scoring drive and completed 71 percent of his passes in the win.
While the Browns’ second contest of the preseason might not have drawn the same wide array of viewers as last week’s primetime matchup against the Carolina Panthers, Saturday’s win over the Eagles gave Browns fans plenty to react to.
Reactions to Dillon Gabriel’s NFL debut
Despite having the lowlight pick-six, Gabriel threw on a busted play; his first NFL snaps provided a glimpse at why the Browns selected him with the 94th overall pick in April’s draft. Gabriel played the entire first half for the Browns and finished the day 13-of-18 for 143 yards and led three scoring drives. Let’s take a look at what Browns fans had to say about Gabriel’s first NFL action:
Fans praise dominant defensive performance
Much like last week against Carolina, the Browns didn’t play many projected starters on either side of the ball, but that didn’t stop the Browns’ defense from turning in a standout performance. Philadelphia gained just 88 yards on 44 total offensive plays, and defensive end K.J. Henry returned a Dorian Thompson-Robinson interception for a touchdown early in the third quarter. If players like Isaiah McGuire and Julian Okwara continue to turn heads as the preseason progresses, Browns fans will have to be optimistic about the depth on the Browns’ defensive line heading into the season.
Browns’ offensive depth continues to impress
After scoring a touchdown last week in his NFL debut, Gage Larvadain continued to make his case as to why he deserves a spot on the 53-man roster against the Eagles. The undrafted free agent from South Carolina took an end-around deep into the redzone on Cleveland’s opening drive and added three catches for 43 yards through the air. Fellow undrafted rookie Ahmani Marshall, who hopes to make a late push for the Browns’ final running back spot on the final roster, also stood out with a 14-yard burst on the Browns’ early second-quarter field goal drive. Kaden Davis, an NFL journeyman who had a pair of touchdowns himself against the Panthers, was a contributor again with three catches for 44 yards, including a 29-yard grab during the Browns’ first-half two-minute drill.
