Bucks Sign Former Undrafted Outside Shooter to a 1-Year Deal

The Milwaukee Bucks aren’t finished tweaking their roster this offseason. The Bucks signed free agent guard Amir Coffey to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday. The addition of Coffey is a continuation of the organization’s eventful offseason.

Free agency started for Milwaukee with a bang. They waived All-Star guard Damian Lillard, who is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 NBA season due to a torn Achilles tendon. To compensate for that move, the front office signed center Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million contract.

Aside from that, the Bucks also signed Gary Harris and Cole Anthony as free agents.

Coffey Reunites With His Former Coach

Coffey may not be the star who could make a significant difference. However, he provides the efficient outside shooting that complements Giannis Antetokounmpo. Last season, he had the best year of his career, averaging 9.7 points through 72 games. He was extremely reliable from beyond the arc, knocking down 40.9% of his shots.

Throughout his career, Coffey has made 38.4% of his attempts from deep. He only had one season where he shot less than 30% of his 3-pointers, which was in the 2022-23 season.

Coffey was part of the 2019 draft class but went undrafted. The Los Angeles Clippers took a chance on him and signed him. At that time, Doc Rivers was the head coach of the Clippers. He was part of the roster that participated in the NBA Bubble and played six games leading to the playoffs.

During that stretch, he averaged six points on 41.7% shooting from deep. Rivers also credited him for being one of the most reliable players for the team at the time.

“Amir’s been phenomenal this week. We just gotta get [him] to keep improving and working,” Rivers said in 2020 via The Athletic.

Coffey will be part of the supporting cast as Antetokounmpo and the Bucks seek to become contenders for the NBA championship.
