The Trending Fashion Aesthetics Gen Zers Are Shopping Secondhand

On Wednesday, Pinterest released its 2025 Fall Trends Report. The ongoing rise in demand for vintage styles like polka dots, 2000s prep and ’90s grunge among its Gen-Z users not only validated the “it” items we’re already seeing all over Fashion Week street style, but also demonstrated a more general interest users have in secondhand shopping. Beyond the specific garments and aesthetics at the top of the report, the digital moodboard app found that its audience has an overwhelming, overall desire to buy pre-owned instead of new.

Pinterest reported that search terms like “dream thrift finds” increased 550% from last year, while “vintage fall aesthetic” is up 1,074% and “men thrift outfits” surged 31%. With all this demand for non-new items, Pinterest decided to streamline the shopping process, allowing resellers to list items straight through their Pins, and customers to make their purchases via the app, instead of having to go through any third-party websites to finalize the transactions.

From Aug. 20 through Sept. 26, users will be able to access Pinterest’s “Thrift Shop,” an online storefront featuring selections from top vintage and thrift retailers around the world, with weekly curations by the platform’s most influential tastemakers.

Shoppers can expect items based on the Fall Trends Reports’ findings to be available — including, but not limited to: classic prep styles (“women’s preppy outfits” is up by 47,680%), “caffeine-inspired clothing” (searches for “coffee brown pants outfit” increased over 632%), patchwork pieces and vintage watch aesthetics (“vintage luxury watch” searches went up over 82%).

Another trend featured significantly in the report, “1960s babydoll glamour,” spiked specifically within Gen Z — likely having to do with Sabrina Carpenter embracing the look throughout her “Short n’ Sweet Tour.”
