🚨 Couldn’t hold on, Vitória sack manager Fábio Carille

Just a few hours after suffering the worst defeat in the history of the Brasileirão by points, being thrashed 8-0 by Flamengo at Maracanã, Vitória announced the dismissal of coach Fábio Carille.

The 51-year-old coach was announced by Leão da Barra on July 9, after the elimination of Rubro-Negro in the Copa do Nordeste, the day before, with a 1-0 defeat to Confiança, in the quarterfinals.

Fábio Carille made his debut for Vitória in the 1-0 defeat to Internacional and led the club in nine Brasileirão games, with only one win, three defeats, and five draws.

Still in the press conference, the coach showed disappointment with the thrashing suffered at Maracanã.

“It’s the worst defeat of my life. This is my ninth year as a coach and it was shameful. I don’t have words. Horrible and shameful night. I wanted to apologize on behalf of the group. What bothers me is that we knew where Flamengo was strong. We worked, but we couldn’t reproduce it on the field”.

Fábio Mota, president of Vitória, also apologized to the fans for the humiliating defeat.

“I want to apologize to the Vitória fans. I’m very ashamed. We went through this in Series C, when we took 6-0 from Figueirense (it was 5×1). Not even that finished us. We went through this in Series B, we took 6-0 from Avaí (it was CRB), and then we became champions. It’s a situation we didn’t want to happen, but it happened. Nobody here is throwing in the towel”.

Leão da Barra returns to the field next Sunday (31), when they host Atlético-MG, at Barradão, for the 22nd round of the Brasileirão.
