Bears are high on undrafted rookie Jahdae Walker

The Chicago Bears are in the process of narrowing their roster down to 53 players, where there are some difficult decisions to be made. But one underrated player, undrafted rookie wide receiver Jahdae Walker, has made a strong case for a roster spot.

Walker has been a standout player this preseason, where he had eight receptions on 11 targets for 98 yards and two touchdowns. His most impressive showing came on the final drive of last Friday night’s comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs, where Walker had two crucial catches — a toe-tap on the sideline and the game-winning touchdown.

One day before final roster cuts, offensive coordinator Declan Doyle sang Walker’s praises, which certainly speaks volumes.

“There are certain guys that walk outside for practice and it’s like a kid going to recess,” Doyle said. “They can’t freaking wait to get rolling and Jahdae is that way.

“Jahdae loves football. He showed up in that last drive (at KC) and the play he made on our sideline was one of the better catches that I’ve seen. He’s just a guy that has worked everyday. He embodies the kind of love that you want for football on our team.”

While it’ll certainly be competitive for that sixth and final receiver spot — assuming they carry six — it’s hard not to listen to Doyle and not believe Walker is going to make the initial 53-man roster. Because there’s a good chance that, if Chicago waives Walker, that he’ll be claimed by another team following his impressive summer.
