Amherst County Lancers 2025 Football Preview

Amherst County Lancers
2024 record: 5-5
Head Coach Chris Moore (3rd year)

Amherst County improved from three wins to five wins in its second year under Head Coach Chris Moore.

Lancers Offense

Our three interior linemen are all three-year starters and will be a huge asset for us this season. We have a returning 1st Team All-Seminole back in A.J. Thomas, and return Tres Liggon at quarterback. We also have some young talent on the perimeter, with Kasey Martin, Savia Mays, and D.J. Clark all being juniors. Our speed on the edges and our experienced interior line are all strengths for us this season.

We will have two new starters at the tackle positions, with senior Jeremiah Dunning at right and a true freshman, Kameron Hamilton, starting for us at left. Those are big question marks, along with our young stable of skill, which remains unproven.

We will be able to compete with everyone on our schedule this season, but it will come down to how we execute in the game’s critical moments. We suffered three one-possession losses last season and anticipate playing in 6-7 seven-point one-score games this season.

Lancers Defense

We should be strong within the box. We have a 2nd team All-District LB in A.J. Thomas returning, along with Wyatt Seay (50+ tackles last season), and Simari Thompson, who is explosive and has the ability to create TFLs and rush the passer.

We will have an all-new secondary with the loss of All-State players Devonte Wade and Benaiah Williams (118 tackles in 2024). Replacing that production from our two safeties will be challenging, but we should be able to generate more production from our front seven.

We were able to produce 20 more tackles for loss in the 2024 season compared to the 2023 season, with players stepping up. We will need another big improvement from them in order to continue our growth on the defensive side of the ball.

Overall, we are more athletic on defense this season and will need to use that speed to keep offenses off-balance and guessing.

Outlook

Amherst Schedule MxPreps

Amherst County improved from three wins to five wins in its second year under Head Coach Chris Moore. Another two-game improvement should result in a playoff game for the Lancers.
