Nike Astrograbber Muslin Pack Release Date

Bode spearheaded the return of the Nike Astrograbber through its debut Swoosh collaboration last year, and then revisited the archival football model with two more colorways this spring. The few in-line colorways that have been released so far have been separated by a clear line from the Bode editions, but that changes with the emergence of a new trio.

The Nike Astrograbber “Muslin Pack” shares the same vintage and premium appearance as the model’s high-profile collaborations. Three colorways are united by a translucent cream sole unit, as well as eggshell Swoosh, laces and liner. Where they diverge is in their leather uppers, with options available in “Cinnamon” brown, “Fir” green and black — the latter of which is especially close to the most coveted of Bode’s four Astrograbbers. The three are also united by jagged edges on the eye stay and heel overlays, a detail that hasn’t been used on any of the prior Astrograbbers.

Until its revival, the Astrograbber was a rather obscure part of Nike history. It was introduced in 1974 as a football cleat and one of the early models to make use of Bill Bowerman’s famed waffle sole. It became the first Nike shoe to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated, via University of Southern California star running back Anthony Davis that same year.

Around the same time, Emily Bode’s father was captaining his high school football team, which inspired her to choose the silhouette for the collaboration and heavily influenced the retro aesthetic of the marketing.

The Nike Astrograbber “Muslin Pack” doesn’t yet have a firm release date but is expected to release later in the year through Nike’s website. Pricing, too, has yet to be confirmed.
