Chloe Sevigny Wows in Saint Laurent at the 2025 Venice Film Festival

Chloë Sevigny elevated the biker short look in a black lace catsuit by Saint Laurent at the red carpet premiere of “After the Hunt” during the 2025 Venice Film Festival.

The actress’ outfit also included another bold design, a voluminous bubble hem, which was juxtaposed against the formfitting nature of the lace catsuit. The long-sleeve design included botanical inspiration throughout, with ornately designed florals offering a reference to the dark glamour style worn in 2025 by the likes of Miley Cyrus and more.

The biker short hem, however, stood out as a key element of Sevigny’s look. The article is a staple of athleisure apparel and gained mainstream popularity thanks to the likes of Princess Diana. Sevigny’s look was even reminiscent of Demi Moore’s DIY 1989 Oscars look, featuring the activewear apparel mainstay.

Moore self-styled for her appearance at the event. Although her look was widely derided and even made WWD’s worst-dressed list — appearing on the front page with the epitaph “Oscar Fright” — Moore may have had her eye on the future of biker shorts’ couture appeal.

Biker shorts were one of the most popular styles of 2019, with Fendi, Roberto Cavalli and Stella McCartney putting high fashion spins on the sportswear piece.

Sevigny’s dress was paired with a set of dive mules in silk satin also from the French luxury house. To top it off, the Oscar-nominated actress wore a necklace in platinum with diamonds, earrings and a ring in 18-karat white gold with diamonds courtesy of Tiffany & Co.

Sevigny is among a growing list of stars bringing the bubble hem to the red carpet. The Y2K-inspired trend found its way to the premiere of the film “Bugonia” at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, with another designer spin.

At Thursday’s premiere, Emma Stone wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress with an elongated bubble hem. The actress wore shoes by Roger Vivier with her look, which was curated by stylist Petra Flannery.

“After the Hunt,” directed by Luca Guadagnino, follows a college professor (Julia Roberts) who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels a shocking accusation against one of her colleagues. The film costars Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri and Michael Stuhlbarg.

The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday and concludes on Sept. 6. Highly anticipated films, including Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” “Jay Kelly,” starring George Clooney and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” will premiere.
