Ruben Amorim’s first year in charge of Manchester United has been anything but smooth.

The Portuguese coach was brought in with hopes of steadying the ship, but a string of poor results has left fans questioning if he is the right man for Old Trafford.

Despite the setbacks, Amorim is still in the dugout — and one Liverpool legend thinks he knows why.

United’s struggles have been plain to see. A 15th-place finish last season and just four points so far in this campaign have only added fuel to the fire.

Painful defeats, including a Europa League final loss and a shock Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby, have made his position look fragile.

Yet, the 40-year-old has survived longer than some expected.

What Jamie Carragher said about Ruben Amorim?

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Jamie Carragher gave his blunt assessment of the situation.

He said: “If he wasn’t so charismatic in the press conference, and wasn’t such a good-looking man, he might have lost his job a lot earlier. When you look at the results, they are horrendous.”

Carragher also pointed out that United’s rivals have managers with stronger credentials. “Take Unai Emery and Eddie Howe. They’re not managers that are going for the league, but they are good managers. To think this guy has got all the answers to get Manchester United back to the top… there are a lot of better managers in the Premier League.”

The ex-Liverpool defender added that Amorim’s charm may be keeping him in the hot seat for now, but results must change quickly.

Amorim’s tactical choices have also been under fire, especially his decision to play Amad as a wing-back.

Former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has criticized the move, saying it wastes the young star’s attacking talent. Fans share the same worry, fearing that United’s system is holding back its brightest players.

For now, Amorim remains in charge, but with Man City and Chelsea up next, the pressure is rising. At Old Trafford, patience has never been as fashionable as Amorim’s suits — and even looks won’t save him forever.
