What’s next for FSU Basketball Recruiting after ‘Noles land another top prospect?

Florida State Men’s Basketball landed yet another top recruit on Wednesday evening when four-star small forward Collin Paul committed to the Seminoles, continuing head coach Luke Loucks’ effort to land a top-10 class in his first recruiting cycle.

Paul becomes the staff’s second top commitment, following center Marcis Ponder, who committed in late July. But where do the Seminoles go from here?

Florida State had two other blue-chip prospects on campus last weekend for the Alabama football game: Brandon Bass Jr. and Kevin Thomas. The ‘Noles also have five more visits coming in the form of twins Gavin Placide and Gallagher Placide, Herly Brutus, Joe Philon and Jalan Wingfield.

FSU is also in it for some five-stars, including Toni Bryant, who was originally scheduled to visit last weekend but is currently rescheduling. And Loucks’ staff was in South Florida to see Caleb Gaskins on Wednesday.

In terms of who is most likely to commit next, the one that seems to make the most sense is Brandon Bass Jr. Per sources close to his recruitment, the visit last weekend went exceptionally well.

Bass wanted to get a detailed look at Florida State’s program during his visit, and the two main things he wanted were to see a practice and to watch film of Loucks’ offensive system.

The four-star prospect has been one of the highest-priority recruits for the FSU staff. He was one of Loucks’ first visits on the trail, where he sat down with his family for an extended three-hour dinner.

Connections and relationships will have to go a long way in this recruitment as Florida State likely won’t have the same resources in terms of revenue sharing and NIL as programs such as LSU, where Bass’ father played in college.

Bass’ high school coach, Brian Hoff, played basketball with Loucks at Florida State. And Loucks knows Bass’ father through NBA connections, as the elder Bass played for the Hornets, Mavericks, Magic, Celtics, Lakers and Clippers over nearly 10 years.
