Jordan Chiles shares who she told about 'Dancing With the Stars' casting first
originally appeared on The Sporting News
Jordan Chiles is trading the gymnastics mat for the dance floor with her casting on Dancing With the Stars.
The Olympic gold medalist shared that she couldn't keep the secret under wraps for too long and shared her excitement with fellow Olympian gymnast, Laurie Hernandez.
“I was like, if they told me, it’s a secret. I can’t tell anybody. I’m not telling anybody,” Chiles told Us Weekly after the cast was announced.“I told Laurie a few weeks ago, because I just [had] seen her in person. I was like, ‘Oh, she’s going to love this, because she’s a remarkable person, and I love her so much.’”
Just like the gymnastics floor, Hernandez is very familiar with DWTS. She competed with pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy in season 23 in 2016 and ended up taking the mirrorball trophy.
Chiles is paired up with professional dancer Ezra Sosa for this season, who has been on the show for four years. Last season was his first season paired with a celebrity when he was partnered with Anna Delvey.
Jordan Chiles reflects on bronze medal controversy
It's been one year since Chiles competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics and her bronze medal was stripped from her. She reflected on her journey since then in an Instagram post last month.
"A year ago today I walked off the floor in Paris with a bronze medal-and lessons I’ll carry with me for life. The hardest moments really do teach you the most. This year had its highs, but the lows hit different," she began.
"Every setback and every disappointment made me dig deeper and showed me what I’m truly made of. It also showed me who’s really in my corner," she added. "Even when something’s taken from you- your truth and your worth is…Untouchable."
Chiles concluded: "To everyone who held me down this past year, who sent prayers, messages, and love when I needed it most- you reminded me I’m never on this journey alone. I love y’all for real. You kept me standing when I didn’t even know how to take the next step. Still here. Still fighting. Still that girl."

She told the publication that performing at the highest level in her field is helping prepare her for DWTS.
“I feel like competing on the biggest World Stage is basically comparable to dancing in front of people,” she explained. “I think it’s more of an expectation, rather than, like, a fear or a nerve, because it’s really being able to showcase something and performing. So I perform all the time, but I feel like it’s going to be different in a way.”
