Tottenham Hotspur have insisted they are not for sale after confirming they rejected two separate approaches to buy the club’s majority ownership.
The club issued a late statement on Sunday night to address speculation that had intensified following Daniel Levy’s removal as executive chairman last week.
The statement clarified that majority owners ENIC Sports & Developments Holdings had received “preliminary expressions of interest” but had rejected them outright.
The approaches were made by Amanda Staveley’s PCP International Finance and a consortium of investors led by Dr Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng through Firehawk Holdings. ENIC, which is controlled by the Lewis family trust, owns just under 87 per cent of the club.
“The board of the club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the club,” the statement read.
The announcement came after mounting speculation that the change in board leadership might trigger moves to acquire the club. Levy had been chairman since 2001 before being removed from his position on Thursday, raising questions about the direction ENIC intended to take.
Under UK takeover rules, Tottenham are required to make clear statements on such matters because the 13 per cent of shares not owned by ENIC are tradable and subject to the UK Takeover Code.
The public clarification ensures compliance with market regulations and begins a formal offer period, giving the parties who expressed interest until early October to confirm or withdraw their intentions.
Staveley, who stepped down from her role as a co-owner of Newcastle United in July 2024, was reported to be considering a move into Tottenham through her investment vehicle.
She played a major role in the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s £300 million purchase of Newcastle in 2021 and briefly held a 10 per cent stake in the Tyneside club before her exit.
While PCP International Finance has since confirmed it will not make a formal bid, the consortium led by Kennedy and Ng has not yet commented publicly on its position.
