Unpacking Hedi Slimane’s Celine beef
Against a backdrop of the news of Giorgio Armani’s death, Hedi Slimane posted on his personal Instagram account that he hoped Celine would “brilliantly reinvent its advertising campaigns as well as its corporate image” so that it could “promote a new chapter … free from any borrowing or any insistent reference to my photographic style, including my advertising campaigns and films for Celine.” When Slimane left Celine, Puck’s Lauren Sherman reported that she was told by several people that he “took” all the imagery he created off the LVMH company drives, and that his lawyer, Léon del Forno, had negotiated that the company could not use the images upon his departure. {Puck/paywalled}

Why beauty execs are writing books
In July, Beekman 1802 founders Dr. Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell published “G.O.A.T. Wisdom: How to Build a Truly Great Business” with the Harvard Business Review. In June, Megababe founder Katie Sturino published her first novel, “Sunny Side Up,” while Bobbi Brown is slated to publish her first memoir in late September. Unlike in the beauty industry, where sales have largely boomed since 2020, the audience for books has been on a steady downturn in recent years, but even as many are turning to digital mediums, the appeal of a physical book still holds strong. {Glossy/paywalled}
