Haway, Haway Haway! | Roker Report

Since Kyril Louis-Dreyfus got involved in the club, in 2021, there has been a sizable vocal minority questioning his motives and expressing scepticism as to the so-called model employed.
The narrative often expressed was that we were to sell all of our best players to help line the owner’s pockets. Though in reality, the only players who have been sold during Louis-Dreyfus’s tenure have been Ross Stewart (who has played less than ten games for Southampton since his move in September 2023), Jack Clarke, Tommy Watson and Jobe Bellingham. Of those four, possibly the only player you’d want to keep now would be Watson.

The way the club has responded to getting promoted to the Premier League has taken everybody by surprise.

The swift response to being promoted, breaking our incoming transfer record twice, and netting 14 new players who all can be said to be a considerable improvement on what we had before has been impressive.

The club’s parsimonious behaviour in the transfer market hither tohas allowed us the spend with a caviller attitude that most are astonished by.

Every position has been covered. The younger players are filling the attacking roles, but older, wiser heads have been recruited to fill holding midfield and defensive roles — clearly this has been the plan since Mousier Louis-Dreyfus took charge.

The club feels like it’s in the best hands that it ever has been. Those who were initially sceptical can’t wait to criticise, like when we exited the Carabao Cup to Huddersfield. Some prominent fan sites were damning in their condemnation of the abandonment of a cup run.

But haway, the atmosphere at the West Ham and Brentford games will be something I will never forget.

I feel the ownership, the players and the fans are all on the same wavelength — and in 45 years of following the red and white wizards, the is the most positive I’ve ever felt… even after Sam Allardyce made it six in a row.

The crowd has been amazing. When we went 1-0 down against Brentford, the fans kept shouting ‘red and white army’, hoisting the players up for one last push.
The connection between fans and payers is second to none and is something Régis Le Bris recognises and understands.
We have a tactically adept coach who understands the club.
Never has there been a better time to support the lads.
