Heirlome Is Not Your Typical New York Minimalist Brand

Don’t be fooled by its sleek, menswear-inspired tailoring and its classic neutrals — Heirlome is not your typical minimalist label. “I tend to gravitate to very clean styles, but not minimal, because a lot of the drama comes with volume and shape,” Stephanie Suberville, co-founder of the New York-based brand, tells Fashionista.

Founded with her husband Jeffrey Axford, Heirlome collaborates with a new artisan every season in pursuit of keeping heritage art forms alive. For Spring 2026, the 2025 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist tapped Bernardina Rivera Baltazar and her daughter Roselia, who carry on a centuries-old tradition of Purépecha pottery by crafting ollas, or traditional round pots for storing water, often decorated with flowers and birds.

Heirlome built its entire collection around Bernardina and Roselia’s floral and paloma (dove) motifs, resulting in key pieces like a floor-length strapless gown featuring the intricate black-and-white print and a crochet dress with pom-poms that translates the print into hand-crafted knitwear.

To achieve the hourglass silhouette present throughout certain tailored pieces, Suberville embedded horsehair into the designs.

“I wanted to create a dramatic structured silhouette, but I didn’t want the garments to feel heavy, because it is spring, so I think horsehair makes things light and bouncy,” Suberville says. “You can’t really see it, but you see it within the shape. There’s a lot of structure, but lightness.”
