Sir Jim Ratcliffe privately outlines new condition that would make him sack Ruben Amorim this season

Ruben Amorim will remain in the hot seat for Manchester United for the foreseeable future despite overseeing the club’s worst start to a campaign in 33 years.

The Red Devils fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Manchester City in Sunday’s derby clash at the Etihad, leaving United 14th-placed in the Premier League table with one win, one draw and two losses to their name in the opening four matches.

In addition to their lacklustre results, United have scored only one goal from open play in six hours of league football. This comes after the board shelled out £193.8 million to grant Amorim an entirely new frontline, made up of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, albeit the latter was ruled out of Sunday’s contest through injury.

When the side endured such a catastrophic end to 2024/2025 by finishing 15th and losing the Europa League final, the majority of fans were keen to stick with Amorim due to the mess he’d taken over upon Erik ten Hag’s sacking last October.

Additionally, he was working with a crop of players that he had no say in signing, so supporters wanted to see how he’d have his options bolstered throughout his first summer window.

According to Ben Jacobs (via GiveMeSport), co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is of the belief that the current United team is capable of qualifying for the Champions League this season.

Amorim’s job security will ‘be more seriously discussed’ if it looks as though the club will again fall short of the UCL places as the term progresses.

Still, there have been no moves made to start sizing up replacements for a potential vacancy in the Old Trafford dugout, and the former Sporting Lisbon boss retains INEOS’ full backing – for now.
